What is 3G?
3G is defined as 3rd Generation which encompasses high speed data access and greater voice capacity. Analog phones are considered the first generation are the digital cellular phones are considered the second generationfor GSM Evolution (EDGE)).
In mobile telephony, third-generation protocols support much higher data rates, measured in Mbps, intended for applications other than voice. 3G networks trials started in Japan in 2001. 3G networks are expected to be starting in Europe and part of Asia/Pacific by 2002, and in the US later. 3G will support bandwidth-hungry applications such as full-motion video, video-conferencing and full Internet access.
The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) is a collaboration agreement that was established in December 1998. The collaboration agreement brings together a number of telecommunications standards bodies which are known as “Organizational Partners”. The current Organizational Partners are ARIB, CCSA, ETSI, ATIS, TTA, and TTC.
What is DualBand?
The network provided by your operator communicates with your phone by using radio signals. These radio signals may have different frequencies. GSM networks transmit either on frequencies near to 900MHz, or near to 1800MHz. Many existing mobile phones will operate either on 900MHz or on 1800MHz. However if your mobile phone is a DualBand type and your operator offers a DualBand service, then your phone will automatically use either 900MHz or 1800MHz. This allows you to have more coverage for making calls.
What is Bluetooth?
Bluetooth is an industry-standard for a low power short-range radio link for connecting electronic devices. Devices such as mobile phones, laptop computers and digital cameras that are equipped with Bluetooth can share data information such as phone numbers, calendar events and digital images within a range of about 10 meters. Neither cables nor line of sight infra-red are needed.
Note: Bluetooth is a registered trademark of Bluetooth SIG, Inc.
What is third generation?
The first generation of mobile communications were analog, and the second generation are the current digital mobile phones. The third generation (3G) is a major evolutionary leap from current technologies, in terms of both capacity and quality, for both voice and data. Third generation devices will be mobile multimedia communications tools - bringing mobility to internet access and to imaging.
What is WAP?
The Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) is an open, global specification that empowers mobile users with wireless devices to easily access and interact with information and services instantly.

Why is WAP needed?
WAP enables the fast delivery of relevant information and services to mobile users. It provides easy access to relevant Internet/intranet information and other services through mobile phones, pagers or other wireless devices. Being the de-facto world standard means users of any WAP devices can access basic WAP services, simplifying technology choices for end-users.

What kind of applications does WAP enable?
While WAP enables several kinds of application, the primary use of WAP today is information retrieval type of activities. Information that can be retrieved varies from financial stock information to sports, news and local food information. In addition to information retrieval WAP also enables you to perform transactions. This means that users can purchase movie tickets or do their banking transactions over the phone.

What is WAP 1.0?
It was the first standard for WAP forum and is generally considered as getting started. There are no WAP 1.0 handsets in the market and it is no longer used.

What is WAP 1.1?
It is the first widely supported WAP version and it was updated to 1.1 to align it with the world wide web.
WAP 1.1 defines the way the telephone communicates with the internet and it has a language (WML) similar to HTML used on the internet. This means you can show text and pictures on your phone. WAP 1.1 also has a way to do small scripting programs called WML scripts similar to java scripts on the WWW. The Nokia 7110 is the first phone to support WAP 1.1.

What is a "PUK" code?
PUK code stands for Personal Unblocking code. It is given by your network provider. It will only appear on your Nokia Phone if you have entered your PIN number wrongly for three times.
